London businessmen are swapping the City for Verbier and Chamonix, as the proliferation of remote working increases the demand for ski chalets.

A recent report by Knight Frank indicated that the introduction of more flexible working policies, particularly in the UK’s tech and financial sectors, has contributed to a trend of UK professionals purchasing properties in popular Alpine destinations.

Under these changing working conditions, foreign owners of second homes in the Alps are spending increasing amounts of time in the resorts, with some now opting to live there year-round, while others who might otherwise only spend a few holiday weeks in their second homes now spending 2 to 3 months.

More and more, they are asking real estate agents for information on schools, especially in our regions of Villars-sur-Ollon or Crans-Montana, which have private schools within the resorts and where a local population resides all year long.

Real estate prices have risen along with soaring UK demand. However, according to the report, the pace of sales will eventually slow down because of a limited supply of properties.
