You hear about the “Magic Pass” every year, but do you know what it actually covers?

For lovers of Villars-sur-Ollon and the Vaud Alps, this pass has become a must-have. Whether you are a chalet owner or a seasonal renter through Gérance Service, here is everything you need to know about this pass. It has significantly boosted visitor numbers and opened up access to numerous ski areas during the winter, while revolutionizing the summer season by making it much more accessible to all.

What is the Magic Pass?

It is much more than just a ski pass. The Magic Pass is an annual pass that runs from May 1st to April 30th of the following year. Unlike classic passes limited to a single resort, it works on a shared model. It is a cooperative that now groups a multitude of destinations under a single card.

In short:

  • A single card for the whole year.

  • Valid for the winter season (skiing).

  • Valid for the summer season (lifts for hiking and mountain biking).

What does it give access to?

The offer is massive. Over time, the pass has grown and now covers more than 80 resorts.

  • At Villars-sur-Ollon: Naturally, it gives you unlimited access to the Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets area. It’s your direct access to the slopes from your accommodation.

  • In Switzerland: It covers the majority of resorts in Vaud, Valais, Fribourg, and the Jura Arc (Grimentz-Zinal, Leysin, etc.).

  • Internationally: Recently, the pass has integrated French resorts (such as Métabief or Monts Jura) and even Italian ones.

It is the ideal tool for skiing in Villars in the morning and exploring another resort the next day without having to pay again.

Its validity is fixed. This year, the pass is valid from 01.05.2025 to 30.04.2026. For the list of destinations, click 👉 here!

How much does it cost? The golden rule of “First come, first served”

The price of the Magic Pass is dynamic. The system works in tiers: the earlier you buy, the less you pay.

  • The launch price (Spring): This is the critical moment. Usually released in March for the following season, the price starts very low (often around CHF 420 for adults). It is an unbeatable offer.

  • The progressive increase: The rate increases in successive tiers throughout the summer and autumn.

  • The final price (Winter): If you wait for the slopes to open in December to buy it, the price can double, sometimes reaching CHF 899. At the time of writing, on December 1st, the adult pass is at CHF 849.

Gérance Service’s tip: This year, between March 11th at noon and April 8th at noon, 277,000 subscriptions were sold, triggering the price hike as early as April 8th. To get a good deal, you need to plan ahead. Subscribe to the Magic Pass newsletter so you don’t miss the launch day in the spring.

Despite the price increases, is it still worth it?

Since its creation, the base price has increased slightly and the “late” price has skyrocketed. Many skiers ask themselves: is it still cost-effective?

To answer objectively, you have to get out the calculator and compare it with the price of a daily pass (which is often around CHF 60 to 80 in major resorts).

The verdict is simple:

  • You bought it at the launch price (approx. CHF 400): It is extremely cost-effective. It pays for itself in just 6 days of skiing. If you come to spend a week’s holiday in Villars or a few weekends, you come out ahead. Plus, you enjoy free lifts in the summer for your hikes.

  • You buy it at full price (approx. CHF 800+): The equation changes. You need to ski about 12 to 15 days to make it worthwhile.

    • It is worth it if: You are a die-hard skier, a secondary resident, or a local who goes up every weekend.

    • It is not worth it if: You only come for one single week a year. In that case, daily passes or classic “6-day” passes will be more economical.

You also have to take into account that the Magic Pass is also valid in summer! Several partner resorts also offer summer openings, with lifts included in the pass. Some chairlifts even accept mountain bikes!

In conclusion: The Magic Pass remains an exceptional offer for its flexibility and access to both summer and winter activities, provided you buy it at the right time.
