Before focusing on Villars-sur-Ollon, here are some criteria that make a resort “very accessible” in order to easily reach the ski slopes:

  • Easy connection/journey from major cities or airports (train / TGV / regional transport)

  • Good network of local public transport (bus, shuttles, mountain train)

  • Well-located / accessible parking lots

  • Schedules adapted to summer & winter

  • Inclusion in global passes facilitating travel

Among the resorts known for their accessibility:

Villars-sur-Ollon is a gem 90 minutes from Geneva airport, which makes it a choice option for those looking for a quiet and family-friendly resort without long journeys. It offers a vast terrain for skiers of all levels, sunny slopes, and a peaceful alpine atmosphere—not overcrowded like some major resorts.

Several other Swiss resorts are also close to main train stations or served by mountain railways.

In general, the resorts of the Vaud Alps make a strong effort regarding public transport and sustainable mobility.

Upcoming developments to facilitate access to Villars-sur-Ollon

A declaration of intent for sustainable tourist accessibility to resorts

The Canton, the Municipalities, tourism and transport stakeholders signed on September 15, 2025, in Villars-sur-Ollon, a declaration of intent in favor of sustainable tourist accessibility to the resorts of the Vaud Alps. The signatories committed to act jointly and in coordination to promote accessibility by public transport, carpooling, as well as coordinated and efficient parking management in order to reduce pressure on road infrastructures, limit traffic overflow into valley villages, and reduce CO₂ emissions.

To coordinate actions and ensure their convergence, a specific platform is being created within the association of municipalities Chablais région, and an action plan is being developed for the 2025–2026 winter season.

RC 719 Barboleuse

The cantonal road 719 (RC 719) connects La Barboleuse (Gryon) and Villars. About 550 meters long, it includes a railway line, a two-way road, and a sidewalk. The average daily traffic exceeds 2,500 vehicles, not counting the BVB line (Bex-Villars-Bretaye) which runs at a frequency of two trains per hour.

To ensure safety both for road and rail traffic, the Canton and the Transports publics du Chablais (TPC), in partnership, are creating a new layout, including the construction of a bridge and a dedicated railway track. The works began in early April 2023 and should be completed in 2027.
